Qualifications
I aim to develop a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental counselling relationship, where you can feel free to talk and share; a space of your own where your difficulties and distress can be heard and where I hope we can pool our resources. Perhaps I can work with you on some new insights and/or discuss some specific techniques; for example -recognising unhelpful patterns of thinking or behaving. As a qualified counsellor I am used to working with a broad range of client issues. I have had extended training and experience in dealing with the following:
Loss and bereavement issues- individuals and couples
Loss of partner/family member, sudden /unexpected loss, loss following long-term illness, miscarriage.
Working with Professionals - frontline public sector professionals such as police and civilian personnel (South Yorkshire Police); Supporting NHS medical and nursing staff.
Other Issues I work with:
I may suggest ideas or techniques that I feel might help you to find a pathway through your difficulties, at a pace that feels appropriate for you. I work from the view that, successful and effective counselling relies on the quality of the counselling relationship. You are unique and the expert on yourself and I will not tell you what to do. However, I hope to be honest in helping you to find the right way to work within your counselling, in order that you may identify choices and changes which support your well-being.
My counselling style has developed from a background experience of nursing, in both adult general and mental health nursing and been enhanced by my work in the voluntary sector. I have worked in areas such as Crown Court Witness Service, Cavendish Cancer Care, Shield HIV Support and Cruse Bereavement Care (all based in Sheffield). This broad and diverse experience of working with a many different types of people has helped me gain a deeper insight and understanding of some of the very difficult situations we may find ourselves in.
My fee is one to one £35 per session and £42 couples per session, I am available on Friday evenings 5pm- 8pm but other times may be available on request
