  • BA (hons) French and Spanish.
  • BA in Non-Directive Play Therapy.
  • BAPT Registered.

I offer counselling and therapy for children and young people aged between three and sixteen years either alone or in family groups. I have over eight years' experience of working with children and families. I am a qualified Play Therapist and I am also trained and experienced in Filial Play Therapy Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural techniques.

All of my work is based on a thorough knowledge of child development which ensures that it is appropriate for young people of all ages. Play therapy can be particularly effective with children who might have difficulty in putting their feelings into words. It enables them to work through their worries and confusion in a concrete way and gives them power over their feelings and experiences. At the same time they are provided with clear boundaries which help them to feel safe and to develop better control over their own behaviour.

Counselling is confidential to the child or young person but I also work closely with parents and carers to help them to identify ways to support their children at home and at school. I can also offer joint work with parents or carers and their children.

I have worked effectively with children affected by a wide range of issues including:

  • Children in residential care.
  • Young people affected by drug and alcohol use.
  • Families recovering from domestic abuse.
  • Separation loss and bereavement.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Young carers.
  • Communication difficulties including selective mutism.
  • ADHD and OCD.
  • Self harm or eating disorders.
  • Attachment problems.
  • School refusal.
  • Anger and other behavioural difficulties.
  • Children recovering from abuse of all kinds.

For more information I have a website at www.reidtherapy.co.uk.

I am currently able to provide therapy on Tuesday daytimes and most weekday evenings. I offer a free consultation and assessment to parents and / or children and then make a standard charge of £35 per 50 minute therapy session.
